Why I Decided to Blog

Today is Wednesday!  'Hump Day' as some call it.  To me, today is the day I sit and write my very first blog entry. (Note: I am not an English major, or writer, so my writing skills may be lacking!)  There are many thoughts, ideas, dreams and visions I have for how I want to use this blog.  I think for today, I'll just share just one of the many reasons why I feel driven to share our story and the daily life challenges (I won't call them struggles) that we live and breathe everyday - pretty simple - it's Community.  Sounds weird or strange, but it's  just one reason why I feel motivated to do this.  God has been tugging on my heart for quite some time to use our situation in some way -

So here goes...

I promise this won't become a 'vent' blog.  I plan to share advice, insights, (we all need a PhD in this to manage all the overload of papers we have to fill out!) and  a whole lot of awesome and humorous events that take place.

The last few weeks, it seems as though I am sitting and running in and out of so many appointments for my son Ethan - and I will share his story in a future blog; I am meeting other moms and dads that literally are missing out on some really awesome support and financial help that is out there.  Knowing there's help available (and trust me when I say - it's not an easy feat to get the help that exists) that gives relief and hope - means so much when you tell a mom - "wait... are you not getting....?? Whoa what? And they had no idea it exists - is heart wrenching!  It just makes me feel driven to help others as much as I can.  We are all in this together.... it's a special kind of Community.

Some other things...  I wish I had documented and kept a journal of all the daily events and accomplishments that Ethan has experienced.  I regret not doing that the last 10 years.  So, it's a move forward... there's no day like today to start!

Have a blessed Wednesday!

Tip 1: If you aren't receiving some kind of state or government-funded help yet - reach out to your local DFACS department, a social worker at the hospital (CHOA has this resource) or local Church Group.  There is help available!

Picture below is Ethan at Robotics @ CHOA (Scottish Rite) walking in the Andago.  It's a remote controlled, high-tech, fancy walker that holds his weight and if he should fall - it tugs him back up.  We've been doing Robotics for about 3 years now (3 months at a time, twice a week), following his Botox and Phenol leg injections.
